In some instances a tooth cannot be saved. A Dental Implant is an artificial metal root inserted into the jawbone. It performs like a natural tooth root. It is used to anchor a crown, a man made tooth. It can be used for an individual tooth, several teeth or even or in some cases an entire set of set of teeth. Implants are a wonderful alternative to dentures and bridges and because they are fixed, the teeth look and function the same as natural teeth. Surrounding teeth need not be cut or reshaped to accommodate implants. Implants are more comfortable than dentures and are encompassed by gum tissue making them appear natural.
Of course, just like real teeth, they need to be brushed and flossed regularly.
