Periodontal disease or gum disease is caused by bacteria attacking your gum tissue. Bleeding gums (gingitivitis) bad breath, sensitivity to hot and cold and receding or loose teeth are all signs of gum disease. There are many causes of periodontal disease including poor oral hygiene, smoking, stress and poor nutrition.
